Gasp! Water!! Water!! No wait...Coins, Gimme Coins!!

One gold (digger) fish money purse for Radhika, who lost hers to MTC pick-pocket: CHECK

Patent for cute purse design: COMING SOOOOON :P

His loopy smile was the hardest to stitch :)

The Fall

Above: " Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" (1558) by Pieter Breugel the Elder.

Above: A sad attempt at paying homage to a truly great painting :)

Also my first oil pastel painting. I became obsessed with Breugel's canvas following gnothi seauton's lead, and Auden's poem inspired by the scene forms the perfect verbal accompaniment to the visual.

Did I mention I LOVE oil pastels? :) Such a beautiful, tactile medium. Feels like smearing paint directly onto the surface. More to come soon...hopefully :)

Musee des Beaux Arts
- W.H. Auden
About suffering they were never wrong,
The Old Masters; how well, they understood
Its human position; how it takes place
While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along;
How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting
For the miraculous birth, there always must be
Children who did not specially want it to happen, skating
On a pond at the edge of the wood:
They never forgot
That even the dreadful martyrdom must run its course
Anyhow in a corner, some untidy spot
Where the dogs go on with their doggy life and the torturer's horse
Scratches its innocent behind on a tree.
In Breughel's Icarus, for instance: how everything turns away
Quite leisurely from the disaster; the ploughman may
Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry,
But for him it was not an important failure; the sun shone
As it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green
Water; and the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.

-Warning-

You DO NOT want to mess with Pu-Cha, the Ninja Cat. Really.

Those needles and roll of thread are quite the weapons!!

And what powers of stealth!! The Dark Knight didn't know what he was talking about!!
:)

I'm a bookie now!! Place your bets!

The result of experimental forays into hand-making a book!! :)

It may be small, but you can guarantee bright ideas will be inspired!! - the light bulb, if you hadn't noticed :) -

Everyone agrees that hand-made books are good for you. Even Theo! :)
Reading is one thing, but there's something so much more satisfying in making your own book.
P.S. This one went to a certain future Booker-winner :)

Self-obsessed work in progress...

I'm hoping this will evolve into something vaguely like a laptop cover or a piece of embroidery I can use on an old bag...butterflies and bubbles in the background waiting to come to life :)

A very belated Happy Mother's Day!

As is evident from the crookedness of stitches, I am a beginner to the chain stitch :)

Salvation for the Love-lorn

Jean-Paul...the new man in my life...I've been waiting forever, where O where have you been my lowe!!! Sigh :)

Too tiny to be stuffed, so he had to settle for being my bookmark :)

Note...big smile, big heart, BIG ears :) Just like the owner :P

Things that have kept me busy...and Yappy!! :)

[An old post I dredged up...fits on this blog, not elsewhere :) ]

Presenting... C.T.!! Coorg Tiger that is...Quite a cutie eh? Presented to Mrs. Bennet on her birthday last week. My first successfully-not-too-lumpy-looking stuffed toy :)

Pattern from Hillary Lang's Wee Wonderfuls.

And this is Paolo!! My first foray into independent stuffed bear design...and panda-making :) Quite the intellectual he is...what with snout buried in owner's future employer-newspaper and the dictionary. Also featured with his big-brother-for-a day Theo. Presented to Chithira on her birthday :)

- Pattern: Moi!!! (with cool blue tie for added panda-attitude)Coming up...your wish!! I've embarked on an obsessive toy-making spree...so let me know if there's an animal or character you like, and yours truly will take it up as a challenge to make!! :)
